Bagels

Ingredients

  • 200 ml warm water
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 t yeast
  • 1 T unsalted butter (melted by not hot)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 400 g all-purposed flour
  • 1 t salt
  • 2 L water
  • 1 t salt
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sun seeds
  • Directions

    1. Combine water, sugar and yeast and stir to combine.
    2. Add butter and egg and mix to combine.
    3. Add flour and salt and mix to form a dough.
    4. Flour a surface and hand knead the bread for 5 minutes.
    5. Turn bottom under to form a ball.
    6. Place in a lightly oiled bowl.
    7. Cover with plastic wrap and a towel and allow to rise for 1 hour (should double in size).
    8. Remove from bowl and roll into a log.
    9. Divide into 6 pieces.
    10. Roll each piece into a ball.
    11. Once all balls are done, place a finger through the middle.
    12. Open the hole a bit and use both fingers to turn to create a well-formed hole.
    13. Bring water to a boil and add salt.
    14. Boil bagels on each side for 30 seconds and remove to parchment paper.

    16. Bake at 400 degrees F for 20-25 minutes (until golden brown).
    17. Allow to cool.
